Artist Bio

My name is Valerie Juliette Ewing and I am a resident of Chicago. With a passion for art since childhood my craftsmanship grew to include a variety of art forms. I acquired a Bachelors Degree in Textile Chemistry from University Of Wisconsin, Madison Wisconsin and a Masters Degree in Interdisciplinary Art from Columbia College Chicago where I served as an Adjunct Professor.

My graduate thesis project was funded by the Albert P. Weisman Scholarship. Following my passion for art, I became an Adjunct Professor at Columbia College Chicago.

My work has been exhibited at various galleries, including a solo exhibition at the South Shore Cultural Center Fine Arts Gallery. At a Human Rights Conference titled "Listening to Women's Voices," I was invited to be a panelist and showcased several sculptures depicting stories about domestic violence and abuse against women and girls.

My acclaimed installation, "Dresstimonials," has been viewed throughout the Midwest. I published a book by the same name, entitled "Dresstimonials: Journeys from Rags to Richness." This book has been used for book clubs, and I have conducted book readings and seminars around the city of Chicago based on it. I have also crafted thirty one-of-a-kind "Artist Books" to document my art projects and sculptures.

I have contributed selected paintings to the annual National Art Exhibitions entitled "Arts in Motion." These paintings are auctioned off to fund Art Therapy Recreation Programs at inner-city hospitals. My focus is to continue developing ways to use my art as a means to impact and transform my life and the world.
